Summer is Over

Tiny. Such as cute name for a township. After visiting Barrie and Balm Beach, we kept on driving along the coast of the Georgian Bay. Cottages were neatly lined-up in rows on both sides of Tiny Beaches Road, most of them either for rent or for sale. Maintaining such large properties isn't a priority when the economy is bad I guess. I grew up by the Atlantic Ocean and I'm a sea person. I rarely swim in lakes'I'm not sure why, but I don't trust still waters. A lot of lakes are murky to muddy and... Read more

The Holidays

Holidays Cookies at the Byward Market Are you guys on holidays yet' Seems like it. It’s pretty quiet these days, except in malls throughout the city where people apparently have a blast buying the gifts Santa didn’t bring them. Alright, let’s talk about holidays then! The other day, I was reading Priyank’s blog, who wrote his “9 clue I’m becoming Canadian“. He noticed the following in Canada: Holidays that are conveniently placed on certain days of... Read more

The Great Melt

From Correr Es Mi Destino , 2 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

After the great freeze, we woke up to the great melt. The weather got a bit warmer overnight and all the ice accumulated had started to melt. Trees were literally shedding ice. Every blast of wind shook the tree limbs, coated in ice — it sounded like a wind chime. We were lucky: no power line snapped in our neighborhood. Sidewalks are flooded though and yet a lot of the ice hasn’t melted, even though roads are clean now. It doesn’t just look like winter: it feels like it too.... Read more

Freezing Rain

From Correr Es Mi Destino , 2 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

We got a bad winter surprise today when we woke up to heavy freezing rain this morning. Yuck. Freezing rain is pretty unique to very cold countries. When surface temperatures are below freezing, raindrops freeze upon impact with any object they encounter. The resulting ice accumulates to a thickness of several centimeters and it coats just about anything. It results in pretty dangerous weather conditions. Power lines and trees bend under the weight of the ice and can break. Streets are roads... Read more

Timmies Cup Left Behind How much can you complain about your new country after you immigrate' Some wish they hadn’t immigrated to Canada and criticize everything and others praise everything but now hate their home country. The truth must be somewhere in between. Immigrants usually go through different phases. Love when everything is new, frustration when the first difficulties appear, and then eventually everything settles down as the person finds a place in society. But some will never... Read more

The Olympic Torch Relay In Ottawa (2/2)

From Correr Es Mi Destino , 2 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

After shooting the torch relay, I decided to stay downtown and to have a look at the night festivities on Parliament Hill. By the time I got there, I learned from two ladies (pictured below) that they would only start after sunset… I wasn’t going to sit on the cold waiting, like them, for a few hours. I headed to Chapters and grabbed a hot coffee. By the time I could feel my toes again, the sun had set. I walked to Parliament Hill and realized that most of Ottawa had apparently... Read more

The Olympic Torch Relay In Ottawa (1/2)

From Correr Es Mi Destino , 2 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Fun day. I just wished it hadn’t been – 10C. A bit too cold to spend 6 hours outside taking pictures, but it worthed it. Today, the Olympic Torch of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics arrived in Ottawa and it traveled all over the city. I walked to Bank Street and waited patiently with the next torch bearer for the current bearer to arrive. It happened very fast. A few minutes beforehand, organizers made sure the torch was working fine. Passersby cleared the road and the female torch... Read more
